Guiyang hosts 20th Guizhou tourism conference
The 20th Guizhou Tourism Industry Development Conference took place in Guiyang on 30 March, showcasing the province’s advancements in smart tourism and artificial intelligence. The opening ceremony, held at Drum Tower Square in Colourful Guizhou city, introduced new characters from the Huangxiaoxi mascot family and promoted the “stub economy,” a ticket-stub reward initiative, alongside the Cool Guiyang Top 10 New Scenic Spots.
Fifteen international media professionals and content creators attended the conference as part of the 2026 China Storyteller Partnerships. From 27 to 31 March, they explored attractions such as Fanjing Mountain and the Zhongnanmen Historical and Cultural Tourist Area, offering a fresh perspective on Guizhou’s tourism narrative.
To position Guizhou as a leading national destination for tourism and long-term stays, 10 provincial departments, including the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, have issued measures supporting tourism-related residential development. These measures cover land supply, asset revitalisation, financial support, and standardised operations. Technical guidelines are also being developed to ensure consistent construction standards across areas like environmental liveability and green, low-carbon development.
Guizhou’s tourism-related residential sector is evolving towards an integrated model, combining development, services, and operations. Efforts focus on enhancing product quality, expanding the customer base, and cultivating professional operators. The province’s cool summer climate, rich cultural heritage, and improved infrastructure, including 1,900 kilometres of high-speed rail, make it an attractive destination for health and wellness tourism.
The 2026 Guizhou Tourism and Residence Research Report indicates that China’s tourism-residence sector is poised for rapid growth. With its natural resources and industrial foundation, Guizhou is well-positioned to capitalise on this trend, further strengthened by government initiatives and growing tourism demand
