Vietjet, Laos government sign collaborative MoU

Vietnamese airline Vietjet and the Laotian Ministry of Public Works and Transport signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) launching their collaboration on a number of aviation-centric initiatives.

Held in Vientiane, Laos, the signing ceremony was witnessed by Vietnamese President To Lam and Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith, together with Vietjet executives and local dignitaries.

Officials from Laos’ Ministry of Public Works and Transport expressed their appreciation for Vietjet’s contributions and capabilities as an international airline with a rapidly growing flight network at the event.

Keeping up with shared goals

The agreement aligns with the strategic cooperation goals set by the governments of Vietnam and Laos in the MoU on Strategic Cooperation in Transport from 2016 to 2025.

Based on its stipulations, Vietjet will collaborate with Laos’ Department of Civil Aviation to implement various aviation projects, aiming to create up to 2,500 new jobs in the country’s aviation sector.

The airline also plans to establish its own MRO facility in Laos; and, through the Vietjet Aviation Academy, oversee the training of the new workforce to meet international aviation standards. To support these joint endeavours, Laos’ Department of Civil Aviation will provide administrative, legal, and facility assistance, and coordinate with other agencies to facilitate these projects.

Vietjet’s expansion in Laos aims to offer affordable flight options and high-quality air services to both Laotian and international tourists, fostering economic and social development, enhancing trade and tourism connectivity, and promoting cultural exchange within the region.
